The definitive 3×3 guide
Solve.
Any scramble. Eight steps. Every edge case. A beautifully animated, hands-on guide to solving the Rubik's Cube — no experience required.
26 pieces.
Not fifty-four stickers — twenty-six solid pieces. See the cube this way and everything starts to click.
6 centers.
They never move relative to each other. The center's colour is that face's colour — always.
12 edges.
Two colours each. Every edge belongs between the two centers that match it.
8 corners.
Three colours each. Exactly one home, between three matching centers.
You don't solve stickers.
You solve pieces.
Why it feels impossible
Quintillions of scrambles.
One way to think.
The cube looks like chaos because you're trying to solve it all at once. The beginner's method solves it one layer at a time — each step builds on the last and never breaks what came before.
Before you begin
Learn the language.
Every move has a one-letter name. A letter on its own means turn that face clockwise — as if you were looking straight at it. An apostrophe means counter-clockwise. A 2 means a half turn. Tap any move to see it.
Right face, clockwise. The front-right column travels up and over the top.
The beginner's method
Eight steps.
From chaos to solved.
Bottom layer first, then the middle, then the top. Here's one real scramble, captured after every step. Tap a step to dive in.
The Solver
Your scramble. Solved with you.
Scramble it, type in a sequence, or drag stickers to turn. Then press Solve — every move is explained in plain English, step by step, using exactly the method above.
Scramble
Bring your own cube
Paint it in. We'll take it from there.
Copy each face of your real cube onto the map below. We check it the way a cube engineer would — every piece, every twist, every swap — and tell you exactly what's wrong if it can't be solved.
Hold the cube so the front face looks at you. Paint U as seen from above (back edge at the top) and D from below (front edge at the top).
